Change the highlight color of text

If you're running System 7.5.3 or later, you can use the Highlight pop-up menu of the Color control panel to change highlighted text to a different color. You'll find that doing so not only makes your selections prettier, but also easier to read than white text on black. This new highlight color applies to selections in all your applications, in dialog boxes, and on the desktop. Even on a black-and-white monitor, you may find it helpful to switch to a new highlight color, which will make text appear on your screen as black against a shade of grey.
