Start up applications on startup
If you use the same set of applications most every time you use your Mac, you can open them automatically on startup. To do so, just place an alias to those items in your Startup Items folder. Here's how: Select the icon of the application you want to launch at startup, press [command]M to create an alias, then drag that alias into the Startup Items folder, which is inside your System Folder (create one if you don't see one). You can put anything in this folder that you want to open on startup--applications or documents. Next time you start your Mac, go get yourself a cup of tea. When you return, all your favorite applications will be up and running.
