PPDs on your Mac
When you install Apple's LaserWriter driver software, you'll notice that it put several different PPDs in the Extensions folder's Printer Descriptions folder. (PPD, by the way, stands for PostScript Printer Description, a file that maintains printer details.) As you scroll through this folder, you'll notice that it includes PPDs for a number of printers, many of which you probably don't have connected to your Mac. To save space on your hard drive you can delete all but the PPDs that you might use. For example, if you only have a LaserWriter Select 360, you can delete all the PPDs but that one. (However, it's best to keep the General and Color General PPDs "just in case." Doing so will keep you from having to reinstall the software in the rare case when you need to use another type of computer.)
