Changing the default paper size for the LaserWriter 8.4
With a busy schedule and the increase in email and other telecommunication solutions, it's a well-known fact that the number of personal letters sent each year has decreased. But if you notice the recent LaserWriter 8.4 release, you might be led to believe that the paper people used to put their letters on is decreasing in size as well. The default paper size for the LaserWriter 8.4 changed from the standard US Letter option to US Letter Small. The change has nothing to do with the paper size, but rather the fact that many printers that utilize the LaserWriter printer software have smaller margins than most of the Apple printers. If you're using a printer that can print with the larger margins of the US Letter option, you can easily change the default size. To do so, open an application and choose the Page Setup option from the File menu. Change the paper size, as well as any other options you'd like to set as default, and then press the [option] button as you click the OK key. Your Mac will display a dialog box asking if you'd like to save these settings as default. Click Save and you're set. From then on, every time you choose the Print command, your Mac will use the settings you chose for your document as default.
