Change your Fonts Universally

Adobe Illustrator still does not make use of style sheets, so making universal changes to your artwork, such as changing all occurrences of blue to green, is a somewhat tedious series of operations. Fortunately, newer versions have excellent selection tools for finding objects with the same attributes, making the job much quicker and easier. Type management is somewhat better also.

One of the most useful tools is the Type, Find Font dialog box. The Find Font dialog box lets you see a list of all fonts used by your document in the Fonts In Document window at the top of the dialog box. Highlighting a font in this list selects the first occurrence of this font in your artwork. You can then select a font from the Replace Font From window (use the pop-up menu just above this window to change between fonts used in your artwork and all fonts installed on your computer) and click the Change button to make the alteration.

If there are several instances of this font in your artwork, Illustrator will then select the next occurrence of the font highlighted in the Fonts In Document window. This way, you can track each change. The Find Next and Skip buttons let you further control exactly what gets changed. If you are sure you want all occurrences of a font changed from one font to another, just click the Change All button.
