Saving the Entire Registry

One way to make sure you don't lose the Registry is to make a complete backup using RegEdit. As always, proceed with caution when editing the Registry.  The Registry is the central database of all your Windows settings, if thi is damaged and you do not have a backup you will most probally need to re-install Windows again.

To do this, click Start, Run, type regedit and press Enter. When RegEdit opens, choose Registry, Export Registry to File. When the dialog box opens, select the radio button labeled All and name your file RegBack. Click Save to create the Registry file and close the dialog box. Choose Registry, Exit to close RegEdit.
